The Honeypot Children's Charity

Our first place 2023 winner, Honeypot’s wrap-around service aims to alleviate social isolation, support young carers’ emotional wellbeing, and help them build the confidence and skills they need to succeed in education.

Young carers aged 5-12 visit a beautiful fun-filled 7 acre site, for their annual three day residential respite break. Their days are filled with lots of activities, friendships and laughter.

The children explore the grounds with treasure hunts, they go pond dipping in the lake and build dens as well as:

  • baking cookies
  • creating art and craft masterpieces
  • play party games
  • eat popcorn during movie nights;
  • and even have spontaneous trips to the beach, paddle in the sea and build sandcastles! For some children this is their first ever trip to a beach.

33% of Honeypot children aged 5-12 recently surveyed said they cook and prepare food for themselves and their families, with 23% assisting with eating/drinking. Sitting down for a meal that they haven’t had to prepare to themselves, is real respite for many of these children.

Feedback from a Honeypot parent:

"On her first respite break my daughter met another young carer and they have been firm friends ever since. The three times she has been with you she has come home exhausted, exhilarated and full of stories of fun.”

Honeypot gives young carers the chance to take a break from looking after someone they love and simply have fun being a child.
